December in Guatemala

Guatemala is known as the eternal spring land so the weather is always nice; still bring a warm jacket with yourself if you are planning on visiting us during December. The temperature remains between 7 and 15 degrees so be prepared.

For Guatemalans, December, is a month full of festivities which begin at December 7 with the famous “Quema del diablo” (Burning of the devil) where people makes fires around the country; and it all finishes on December 31 with the welcoming of the New Year.


A unique traveling offer

During this trip you will visit Guatemala City, Antigua Guatemala, Chimaltenango and Lake Atitlán; the traveling program lasts for 5 days, so prepare yourself for having an amazing journey!

The first part of the program consists on visiting Guatemala City, it includes a tour around the city, see the Central Market, Main Plaza, Metropolitan Cathedral and learn about the city’s history. Then a visit SHARE Guatemala central office and you receive a full schedule of the trip.

The second part of the trip is a business immersion; you visit the house of a client from SHARE Guatemala to learn how the different loan programs the NGO offers are working. You can also help repair schools: painting, building hand washing stations, small libraries to promote a reading culture in vulnerable communities.

During this part of the trip, you visit Iximché, an archeological site that used to be a Kaqchikel city. In here you will learn about Mayan culture, you will be part of a Mayan Ceremony that will give you a wide panorama of Guatemalan culture and past.

The third part of the trip will give a fully cultural exchange experience; you will visit Sololá, the province where one of the most beautiful lakes in the world is: Lake Atitlán. In here you will ride a boat and you will cross the lake up to San Juan La Laguna a small town where you will learn about the way farmers harvest delicious Guatemalan coffee and fabric manufacturers work.

You will also visit Antigua Guatemala, the colonial beautiful and very touristic city, considered by UNESCO a Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Its bohemian atmosphere will enchant you. In here you will learn more about Guatemalan culture, visit markets and enjoy this beautiful city that is right below Agua Volcano (Water Volcano).  


You must know that the whole trip includes transportation, an English/Spanish speaker guide, hotels, food, nonalcoholic drinks, fees to touristic places, taxes, a medical insurance and all of the activities described above.
